MS. OLAYEMI O. SOTOMI (DIRECTOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY)
Ms. Olayemi Sotomi is the pioneer Director of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) in the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing. She was also the pioneer Director of ICT in the Federal Ministry of Health where she doubled as the eHealth Project Management lead after facilitating the inauguration of Nigeria's inter-ministerial eHealth governance structure. Prior to this she led the publication of Nigeria’s first eHealth Strategy. Her career in Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service spans over two decades.
Her career progression in Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) cut across the administration and supervision of ICT Units in the Lagos Mainland and Lagos Island Tax Offices. She was actively involved in the implementation of Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN) in the country. She has been in the directorate cadre since 2008 and has experience spanning several other Ministries including Federal Ministry of Finance, Federal Ministry of Defence and Public Service institute of Nigeria (PSIN).
She holds a Computer Science/Economics degree and other professional certificates. She is a member of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) and other professional bodies.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The ICT Department co-ordinates all ICT infrastructure acquisition, installation and maintenance within the Ministry (Works and Housing Sector). It also performs all ICT support services on Hardware and Software in use on the Ministry’s large Area Network of Computers including provision of specification and standard in line with international best practice on the procurement and installation of customized Software Applications and Social Media platforms.
1.1 CORE FUNCTIONS
(a) Co-ordinating all ICT infrastructure acquisition, installation and back-up services in all Departments of the Ministry (Works and Housing Sector);
(b) Undertaking feasibility study of the existing mode of ICT operations in all Departments and Units of the Ministry;
(c) Recommending Hardware and Software requirement for use in each Department/Unit in the Ministry;
(d) Deployment of Enterprise and Customised Application software in use in the Ministry for optimal performance;
(e) Purchase and Installation of Network Enterprise Smart Security / Antivirus Software on Computers in the Ministry;
(f) Monitoring of Internet Bandwidth utilization by users on the Ministry’s large Area Network of Computers;
(g) Design, development and technical management of the Ministry's harmonized single website with domain name www.worksandhousing.gov.ng and with daily upload of multimedia contents including the Social Media handles;
(h) Conducting ICT literacy programmes for all cadres of staff of the Ministry on regular basis;
(i) Liaising with other Departments in the Ministry in the design of their specific databases to enhance the coordination of their functions;
(j) Liaising with the Research & Statistics Division of the PRS Department in the collection, analysis, processing and dissemination of data on statistical related information to the public;
(k) Liaise regularly with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) on all ICT project clearance and certification before implementation in the Ministry in line with the SGF Circular on ICT projects clearance by MDAs.
