(DIRECTOR HIGHWAY BRIDGES AND DESIGN)
Engr. Omotayo Olusegun Awosanya was born on the 17th February, 1964 in Offa, Kwara State to the family of Mr. & Mrs R. B. Awosanya who are natives of Isara, Remo North, Ogun State.
He attended Methodist High School, Ibadan Oyo State, where he completed his secondary education in 1979. He thereafter proceeded to Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering in 1983. Upon graduation, he served his compulsory one year NYSC scheme with Combined Services Nig. Ltd., a construction firm in Kano, Kano State. With a burning desire to further his education, Awosanya proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained his B. Eng in 1987. In 1988, he obtained admission into the University of Lagos for a Master’s Degree programme in Civil Engineering. He graduated with M.Sc in Civil Engineering (Geotechnics) from the school in 1990.
He started his career as a Civil Engineer with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in November 1989 where he was employed as Civil Engineer Grade 1. Engr. Awosanya rose through the ranks to become a Director in 2018 till date. He is presently the Director Highways (Bridges & Design) at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Mabushi, Abuja.
Engr. Awosanya became a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in February, 1994 and the following year in January, 1995 he was registered as an Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He is a life member and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and also a fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers.
He has attended several International Workshops, training and seminars on the practice of Highways Engineering at home and abroad to sharpen his engineering career.
Engr. Awosanya is married to Dr. Bisi Awosanya and blessed with two beautiful daughters Eniola and Folake.
DEPARTMENTAL FUNCTIONS OF HIGHWAYS (BRIDGES & DESIGN)
1. Initiating design policy and setting design standards for Federal roads;
2. Supervision of consultants engaged for all road, bridge structures, flyovers and other road structures up to final engineering stages;
3. Vetting of engineering designs forwarded by Consultants;
4. In-house design of some roads, bridges and drainage structures;
5. Pre-contract services including preparation of Tender Documents/ Bills of Engineering Measurements & Evaluation (BEME), working drawings and contract documents for highway projects and producing the technical reports for award of contracts;
6. Assisting the Procurement Department as may be required in the pre/post qualification of consultants/contractors;
7. Supervision of the construction of major stand-alone bridges;
8. Vetting of requests for Augmentation and Revised Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (RBEME);
9. Management of Consultants engaged for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of various bridge/road projects in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Environment; and
10. Routine bridge inspection/ data collection for Bridge Management Information System.
